HDR stills in KADR.gallery

KADR.gallery supports the visualization of still images coming from HDR workflows.

This feature is designed to display HDR stills correctly when the source material contains valid HDR metadata and the viewing device supports HDR playback.

It is not intended to replace color grading environments or calibrated HDR monitors.

What this is for

  • Reviewing stills exported from HDR projects
  • Sharing color decisions with creative teams
  • Using HDR stills for internal review and communication
  • Maintaining visual consistency when working outside the color suite

How it works

  • KADR detects stills exported from HDR workflows (for example, 10/16-bit TIFFs).
  • The system preserves and applies the appropriate color space and transfer function (such as P3 / PQ).
  • When possible, KADR generates a visualization file that can be displayed as HDR on compatible devices.

Important notes

  • HDR visualization depends on device and browser support.
  • Safari and Apple displays currently offer the best HDR viewing experience.
  • On non-HDR capable devices, stills will be displayed using standard SDR fallbacks.
  • This feature is meant for visual reference and review, not for final color approval.

In short

KADR does not simulate HDR or apply creative transformations. It simply respects the HDR metadata already present in the source still, and displays it accordingly when the environment allows it.
